Mac SimpleGPS is Macintosh application designed to manage waypoints, routes and tracks on your GPSR (global positioning satellite receiver). The best use for Mac SimpleGPS is to download .LOC (waypoint location) files from GeoCaching.com and transfer them to your GPSr. It is also a great way to save and store your waypoints for later use and reference.

While Mac SimpleGPS is under development, many changes and additions will happen. This is the site to check for the latest info. You can also sign up for our email list to be notified when changes and additions are made. Click here to sign up for the announcement list.

Mac SimpleGPS is compatible with Garmin and Magellan GPSr.

With support for Magellan and Garmin GPSr, you can use your USB-to-Serial converter to connect and send/receive waypoints. Other features include changing the display of units and logging all activity to and from the GPSr.

NEW! - support for Safari web browser and Tabs to display the Cache Point, Nearest Caches, and MapQuest map for any waypoint. All with just one click.

Designed with OS X in mind. Sheets, multi-threading, toolbars and completely Aqua-fied.

Drag-and-drop your .LOC, .GPX, or .XML files right into the window to automatically import.

Contextual menus for just about everything!

Saves file in the cross-platform, universally accepted .GPX format. Perfect for transferring points to other applications or computers.

Uses

Mac SimpleGPS was designed with GeoCachers in mind. Some of the ways you can use it include:

  • Download .LOC files from GeoCaching.com, drag-and-drop into a Mac SimpleGPS window, and download to your GPSr.
  • When you find a cache, change the icon to Geocache Found. Then when you get back, receive all your waypoints and you'll quickly know what you found and didn't find.
  • Keep a master GPX (Mac SimpleGPS) file of all you found caches, missed caches, and benchmarks.
  • Read/write files from EasyGPS.

Other Software

For those looking to do mapping or other complex applications, I highly recommend you take a look at GPSy. It is an excellent program that is well supported and has many more features. While I haven't used it personally, it come very highly recommended by users. I will not attempt to duplicate what they are doing, so if you looking for me to implement those features, don't hold your breath.
